Sur la Great Ocean Road

En route pour la Great Ocean Road!

Pas loin de Melbourne – enfin pas loin en Australie ça commence à faire plusieurs centaines de kilomètres – se trouve une route côtière appellée la Great Ocean Road.

Longue de 243km, cette route constitue un monument aux morts érigé en l’hommage des soldats morts lors de la 1ere guerre mondiale et construite par ceux qui étaient revenus sains et saufs.

De nos jours très très touristique, elle offre de superbes points de vue qui ne manqueront pas de rappeller les galises normandes d’Etretat par endroits.

La Great Ocean Road est aussi connue pour ses « 12 apôtres » ( blocs rocheux) qui ne sont malheureusement plus que 8 à présent…

Escale à Melbourne

La Belle Melbourne est la ville du « Chill out » par excellence. Pour les non English speakers (je pense à toi maman), « chiller » en franglais signifie se détendre, prendre du bon temps. Melbourne est donc la ville où il fait bon vivre et prendre du temps pour soi.

Avec le plus gros ratio restaurants et bars par habitant, pas de difficulté à trouver ici un endroit où boire un verre ou dîner. Vous n’êtes pas à Paris : pas besoin de faire la queue pour être assis en terrasse l’été dans un endroit sympathique avec en ligne de mire un coucher de soleil qui illumine les buildings du central disctrict… Vous trouverez aisément une place au soleil dans un lieu romantique, un bar branché, un café réputé, sur la pelouse d’un park ou au bord de l’eau. La vie est belle.

Vous pourrez vous promener dans le quartier branché et hipster de Fitzroy et en profiter pour faire un peu de shopping bobo si par exemple vous voulez acheter des graines au détail ou un costume pour une soirée déguisée dans l’une des nombreuses friperies, déjeuner d’une salade vegan et un sandwhich gluten free, flaner dans les rues décorées de peintures murales façon street art…

En plein Open d’Australie, rien de tel qu’un fish & chips au soleil sur une mini colline du centre de Melbourne avec écran géant, coussins dodus et ambiance musicale garantie!

Besoin de souffler ? Le magnifique Botanical Garden vous ravira : arbres immenses, lacs parsemés de lotus, fleurs exotiques et bien sûr le cris des perroquets, signe que nous sommes définitivement en Australie !

Tenté par une escale culturelle ? Le Victoria Museum of Art sera une belle découverte. Gratuit, il abrite des œuvres originales contemporaines. Une belle découverte.

En mal d’exotisme ? Rien ne vaut un détour par le quartier chinois ce Chinatown pour un délicieux Bubble tea  ou une soupe.

Ne manquer d’aller prendre un café dans une échoppe : un joli coeur dessiné dans la mousse pour le plaisir des yeux et le parfait mélange pour le plaisir des papilles. Ici on ne prend pas le café à la légère, les serveurs font des études de mixologie pour connaître tous les secrets du café et des cocktails!

Il ne manque qu’une plage au tableau, non ? Eh bien non, Melbourne a sa plage dans le quartier historique de St Kilda. Sur la jetée petits et grands se réjouiront de voir de petits pinguins rentrés se cacher entre les rochers à la tombée de la nuit, après leur pêche journalière… Pour les plus sportfis d’entre vous, c’est LE spot pour faire du Kite Surf!

Bref, une ville bien sympathique que seul un vent trop fréquent et frais à mon goût a (légèrement) perturbé,  pas bien gênant au fond… 😉
